About This Album –
This set brings together a group of hard swingers who call the Windy City their home town, and who also share an uncommon ability to play earthy, relaxed, blues-filled, funky jazz. Johnny Griffin, one of the top-rated tenor men of the day, has been featured with Thelonious Monk and Art Blakey. Wilbur Ware is an outstanding and unique bassist whose deep, firm sound has been heard with Monk and many other modern greats. Junior Mance’s piano has been spotlighted in Cannonball Adderley and Dizzy Gillespie groups. Together, they prove that Chicago is a place where a lot of real bedrock, cooking jazz has been born.
