About This Album –

Both groups represented here include top horn men, but it’s not at al unfair to shine the spotlight on just about the finest rhythm sections available anywhere – the sort of tight-knit, solid-core, driving units so essential to making today’s jazz swing. Pianist Wynton Kelly has starred with Dizzy Gillespie and Miles Davis; Philly Joe Jones, who also gained fame with Miles, is today’s major influence on young drummers. Section #1 has Paul Chambers, still another Davis mainstay; #2 includes Wilbur Ware, often featured with Thelonious Monk. All are favorites with the many musicians they have backed so often and so fabulously.
