About This Album –
This album features the talent and imagination of one of the finest of today’s jazz pianists. Randy Weston has learned from sources as far apart as Theloinous Monk and Art Tatum, but his music is above all his own. On one side his trio includes a most distinguished guest: Art Blakey, who must be included on anyone’s list of the great drummers. On the other side, Weston takes off on his own, with his strong left hand enabling him to succeed (as few others can) with the almost lost art of solo piano. Zulu, Softness and the beautiful Pam’s Waltz also demonstrate Randy’s abilities as a jazz composer.
