About This Album –

One of the warmest and most deeply swinging of all modern tenormen is featured here. Zoot Sims first gained fame in the late 1940s as one of the celebrated “Four Brothers” who made up the Woody Herman sax section. Since then he has been heard with Stan Kenton, Benny Goodman, Gerry Mulligan and has led groups on his own and with Al Cohn. On two tunes (Swim, Jim ad Osmosis) Zoot demonstrates that he’s in command on alto, too. The first four selections are arranged by George Handy, a top jazz writer since his days with Boyd Raeburn in the ‘40s.
