About This Album –

The “Jazz Lab” group put together by alto star Gigi Gryce and featuring the brilliant solo work of Donald Byrd on trumpet is one of the finest examples available of tight-knit unity in small band jazz. From the intricate lines of their version of Love for Sale through their blowing on one of Gigi’s best known compositions, Minority, the “Jazz Lab” really cooks, and cooks together. Gryce, a close friend of Charlie Parker, has worked with Art Blakey, Clifford Brown, Art Farmer, etc; Byrd has starred with Blakey’s Jazz Messengers and many others.
